Don’t just make decorations for fun anymore

Post date:

Every penny counts! Whether you enjoy making decorations out of paper, plastic, glass, wood, or fabric, show them off. The demand for handmade products is growing every day, especially decorations for Christmas, Easter, Walpurgis Night, birthdays, and weddings. Your time is also very valuable, and a little extra cash always comes in handy. Of course, you won’t make millions this way, but it will bring you joy.

You won’t need a business license or a sales booth, unless you want to start a business and sell in bulk. Just take nice photos of your products, post them on the appropriate website, and then wait for interested buyers. The most popular and most-visited websites that allow the sale and purchase of handmade decorations can be found online.

Want to go big?
Do your acquaintances, friends, and family tell you that you could make a living from this? Why not? Yes, it sounds simple, but the beginnings of any business are often not easy. However, if you secure everything you need and are properly informed, you can’t go wrong. We have a few tips for you to keep in mind if you’re starting to sell on a large scale.

1) You’ll need a business license
. It depends on what materials you use to make your decorations, because that will determine which unlicensed trade you choose—one that doesn’t require any professional qualifications. However, you must meet the general requirements. Set aside 1,000 CZK for the issuance fee.

2) Get some good advertising!
You can start by promoting your products on social media.
Your products will spread really quickly, and then all you need to do is set up a website and an online store.

3) Keep an eye on demand!
It’s important that there’s genuine interest in your products. This means that, for example, you certainly won’t sell spring decorations in the winter. You need to pay attention to the season as well.

4) Watch the price!
The price must be reasonable and affordable. Compare your prices with the competition so you aren’t the most expensive on the market.

5) Reach out to brick-and-mortar stores
that sell decorative items to secure customers. Once sales pick up, you can even consider opening your own brick-and-mortar store.

You can find tips and advice everywhere; it’s up to you how you decide to proceed and where to start. We recommend first testing the level of interest in your products. Try selling one product right now; if there’s immediate interest, you’re on the right track. But if you see that there’s no interest for months, it’s better not to start the business—it might not be worth it.
